Chicano Park Day 2023

Why is Chicano Park Day Important?

Chicano Park Day is held annually on April 22nd in honor of the local community coming together to stop the demolition of their neighborhood. While the celebration is filled with food and art, the spirit of Chicano Park Day commemorates the Chicano community and the struggles they have had to face in order to stay present within San Diego. Chicano Park Day also allows for the Barrio Logan area to give awareness to the greater San Diego community of the ongoing struggles that they still have. High levels of pollution due to the bridge, small amounts of financial support from the local government, and gentrification are just a few of the obstacles the park deals with.
